Time for I8NY :FIRST QUARTER:

Party is tonight... Eiger Studios, full details below...

But first, continuing on the Stones Throw tip that I begun I'm just going to take you through a few connections...

A few months back I was listening to Gilles Peterson, as I often do. It was a hook up show featuring Thom Yorke. Amongst various gems I heard a Madvillain track; Shadows of Tomorrow. Fucking deep track.

So I looked up the album, I'd been listening to a lot of J Dilla and discovered that they shared a label. That drugged up psychedelic Hip Hop really appeals to me... A little bit further on after delving in to the Stones Throw back catalogue I stumbled on some real gems...

I was in NY a couple of weeks ago and in an unprovoked gesture the girl in Earwax Records who was a little disconcerting (due to the fact that she was slamming picked through records 'back to neatness' somewhat violently) redeemed herself by picking out Madlib's Shades of Blue and Medicine Show No.3. Again utterly amazing.

Back to Leeds and I popped in to Jumbo to see what was in, it's a fine fine store and reflects so much of the multi genre outward looking vibe that is surely the future of music. Mr YADIG pointed me in the direction of Quasimoto which I finally got round to listening to tonight.

Quasimoto features on Shadows of Tomorrow in a quite memorable fashion... Bless those record shops, you start picking at a label like Stones Throw and a whole load of great juice comes flooding out. These guys above are sampling Doobie Brothers, Sun Ra, The Stylistics, The Buzzcocks, Slick Rick, Steve Reich, Gong... The Electric Prunes for fucks sake...

Then I find out that Madlib IS Quasimoto... What next?

I know that this isn't exactly finger on the pulse sort of shit if you follow these guys, they've been on it over 10 years but music is about following strings that you pick up in all types of playhayceesss....

The Man Madlib is a Genius.

So I'll be dropping some tonight.

There will be a bit of a knees up in the Grove Pub pre-party...
